Vanke Headquarters: A Sustainable Architectural Marvel

BLVD's Innovative Design Merges Nature with Urban Life

Vanke Headquarters, a unique architectural project by Honglei Liu - BLVD, is a testament to sustainable design and environmental consciousness. This award-winning design is a perfect example of how architecture can bridge the gap between nature and urban life.

The inspiration behind this project was the concept of a 'box inside a box', an idea that was born from the industrial envelope of the Steven Holl building. Each function of the program has become an object itself, with warm wood used to create a stark contrast with the concrete and metal envelope. The result is a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and sustainable.

The unique properties of this design lie in its blend of environmental protection and energy-saving features. A number of skylights were incorporated into the 6th floor of the building, which served as a design motive. The introduction of sunlight into the interior spaces symbolizes the integration of nature into the design. This project is a reflection of Vanke's commitment to building a bridge between natural living and urban life.

The realization of this design was made possible through the use of wood, a material known for its acoustic and thermal insulating qualities. A dark gray carpet was chosen for the floor to aid in isolation conditions and to add a softer and warmer texture to the space. The VIP conference center covers a total area of 375 square meters and includes a VIP reception room and a conference room.

The design process was a collaborative effort, with Creative Director Honglei Liu leading the team, which included Senior Designers Abel Erazo and Jiayi Hu. The project, which started in April 2015 and was completed in June 2016, was carried out in Shenzhen, China.

The design of the VIP reception room followed the idea of a dry garden where ground relieves and vertical lines create shadows and soft movements through the space. The conference room was designed with a half-circle table to facilitate video meetings, allowing attendees to face not only a screen but also each other.

The project is a testament to the experimental architectural design concept "the floating horizon skyscraper" by Steven Holl. After ten years of growth and refinement, it has become a sustainable landmark landscape standing high in the city. This project is a reflection of the exploration of the relationships between man and man, man and nature, and man and society.

This design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
